How Does it Work?

Student Athletes > Create > Engage > Raise Funds

SportCoups is an easy way for student athletes to raise money for their individual sports needs. Athletes can download the app, create a FREE profile and fundraiser, and engage with potential donors by inviting them to donate via text, email, and social media. Then, just watch as the donations come rolling in!

Donors > Donate  > Get Rewarded > Shop

Make a difference in the lives of student athletes by donating $20 (+ service fee) to help cover some of their sports-related needs. You must be invited by an athlete you know. Once invited, you donate to their fundraiser and automatically get registered as a donor. Then, download the app, log in, and get access to hundreds of valuable coupons you can use for the next 6 months!

Merchants > Support Student Athletes > Offer Discounts > Acquire New Customers & Repeat Business.

When you participate in SportCoups, you’ll potentially reach millions of customers for repeat business by offering mobile discount coupons for your goods and services. Fill out the form on the merchant page and a member of our team will be in touch!

How Do I Get My Donations?

With SportCoups, the money you collect goes directly to you. Each donation you receive goes directly into your bank account when the credit card transaction is completely processed. You will be notified via email when donations are made on your behalf and can see it reflected in your app immediately. Raising money for yourself has never been easier. Plus, we’re here to help.

Does SportCoups Have a Mobile App?

YES! Go to your app store right now and download! Seriously, stop reading and go download.

For athletes, the app is where you create and manage your profile and fundraisers. For Donors, the app is where you have access to all those awesome coupons!

Do My Donors Get Charged?

Nope. Other sites might charge your donors without you knowing it, but we would never do that. Donors are charged only the $20 (+ service fee) they donate, nothing extra or on-going.

Are There Any Fundraiser Time Limits?

Fundraiser time limits generally run the length of the season in which the student is playing the sport. New fundraisers can be started in new seasons.

How Will I Know if Someone Donates?

You’ll receive an email every time there is a donation made to your SportCoups fundraiser. You can also keep an eye on the donations right in the app. More push notifications, like text or in-app, are coming soon!

Do I Have to Use My Real Name?

Yes. SportCoups is a site that requires authenticity and transparency.

Can I Keep My Fundraiser Private?

Well, yes and no. Your personal information is safe and will remain private. But, you are sharing your fundraiser to raise money, so those that you invite to donate will have knowledge of your fundraiser. If you want to keep it private, just invite those fans that you trust and tell them not to share it. But, you may not raise as much money that way!

Who Will Donate to My Fundraiser?

Your fundraiser will be supported by the people in your life–your FANS. This includes family, extended family members, neighbors, friends, and others close to you. Make sure to email, text, and post on social media to reach all of your fans. You can even print out fundraiser flyers and hand them out.

What if I'm Not Comfortable Sharing This with Friends and Family?

Sharing your fundraiser with friends and family is a part of what makes SportCoups work so well. Not only will the people in your life support your fundraiser. They will also help spread the word to their friends as well who may donate.

Do I Have to Use My Facebook Account? (Or other social media)

You do not need to be on Facebook, or other social media, to use SportCoups. However, sharing your fundraiser on social media will help reach your fans and get donations!

Can People Donate from Their Phones?

You bet! Donors can easily accept your invite and donate right from their phones. Then, of course, download our app to get their coupons!

Can We Sign Up as a Whole Team, as a SportCoups Group?

SportCoups was developed with the individual athlete in mind. Our main focus is to help athletes raise money for their personal sports-related needs.

But, we understand some teams and organizations fundraise together. Right now, you have two options. One, each athlete can register a separate fundraiser, but your whole team or organization connects to the same bank account. Make sure to have your coach or captain set up this one account and have each athlete connect to that, rather than their own. All donations made will be recorded under your personal SportCoups account, but the money will go to the team or organization’s bank account. Later, after your team or organization’s fundraiser is done, you can always change your bank information back to your personal or parent’s account if you want to return to raising money as an individual. Option two is to have every athlete uses SportCoups individually and at the end of the fundraiser, pool all your money together that was raised.

We are working on a more fluid and effective team/organization approach to using SportCoups!

Can I Tell My Team and Friends About SportsCoups?

Absolutely! We encourage you to tell all your teammates, friends, and family who go to school and play organized sports to sign up for SportCoups, so they can also raise money for their own sports-related needs.

What's the Secret to a Successful Fundraiser?

Well, it’s a secret. Download the app and register and you may just find out…

How Can I Share My Fundraiser?

Every SportCoups fundraiser is given a unique link that’s easy to share with others. Right from the inside of the app, you can share your fundraiser via text, email, or social media.

What About NCAA Regulations?

The NCAA does not view personal fundraising any differently than any other form of fundraising for D1 student athletes. In terms of eligibility and amateur status, this usually requires the athlete’s fundraiser does not exceed “actual and necessary expenses” and relates to competition or training for competition. In the end, the athlete is responsible for his or her own compliance with NCAA rules. If you are unsure, check out NCAA’s Eligibility Center website. We also recommend that athletes check with their college or university’s athletic department, in the case they hold separate guidelines or rules.

Does it Cost Anything?

SportCoups is a free app. For the athlete, they will not see any costs and only receive $20 donations from their fans. For Donors (fans), they are tasked with covering our service fees and will be charged the $20 (+ service fee) for each donation made. That is specified during the donation process.

How Do I Know it's Safe to Donate to Someone?

With hundreds of thousands of fundraisers, it’s not feasible for SportCoups to investigate the claims stated by each student athlete. Rather, we provide visitors with the tools to make an informed decision as to who they choose to support. While SportCoups does provide a number of safeguards to deter fraud, we encourage all potential donors to only donate to people they know and trust.

Can I Change the Bank Account I Originally Connected?

Yes, athletes have the ability to change their connected bank account. Under Settings, you will find the option to “edit bank details.” You will be prompted with the same original process of finding your bank and connecting the account you wish to use.

What is the Student Athlete’s Split Percentage of the Donation Amount?

Most traditional sports fundraising concepts like hard plastic coupon cards yield varied splits of the donations, rarely exceeding a 60/40 split. SportCoups allows the athletes to receive 100% of the donation, all $20! The donors cover the fees as part of their donation, which allows the athletes to get the full $20 and raise more money.

Can I Use SportCoups if I am Under 18 Years Old?

Yes, if you are between the ages of 14 to 17, you can use the SportCoups platform but must have your parent or guardian’s permission. You must also have their permission to use their bank account, unless you have your own bank account and routing information.

If you are 13 or under, your parent or guardian must register you and provide the routing number to their bank account, so donations can go directly into their account on your behalf. We cannot deposit donation funds directly into a student athlete’s account that is under the age of 14.

If you are 18 years or older and have your own bank account, you can just register and use SportCoups without parent or guardian permission.

Can I Still Go Door to Door to My Neighbors Since I Don’t Have Their Email or Cell Numbers?

Yes, absolutely! SportCoups is dedicated to making it easier for athletes and lets you do everything you need from your phone. But, if you don’t have contact information, you can print out your fundraiser and deliver it door to door. The flyer will have all the information your fans need to donate!

Make sure to ask for their information when you visit, so next time you can simply send the invite from your phone!

Will the Merchant Coupons Advertised Always be Available?

Our available coupons change from time to time and may expire on different dates. Many merchants replace expiring coupons with a different offer. Merchants may also change frequently, offering more variety in coupons for the donors. While we can’t make guarantees about which merchants will continue to participate, or for how long, you can rest assured your donors will be rewarded with valuable mobile coupons for a full 6 months after they make a donation to your fundraiser.

How Long Will Donors Have Access to the SportCoups Discount Mobile Coupons?

For a full 6 months after their latest donation.

What About Taxes and Stuff?

Unfortunately, we’re unable to provide specific tax advice since everyone’s situation is different. While this is by no means a guarantee, most donations on SportCoups are simply considered to be ‘personal gifts’ which are not taxed as income in the US. Additionally, only donations made to a legally registered non-profit or charity may be considered eligible for donors to claim as a tax deduction. Again, every situation is different so please consult with a tax professional in your area.

How Do I Send Thank-You Notes?

You will be notified of any donations to your fundraiser by SportCoups, so be sure to shoot a personal thank you text or email to the donor to thank them for the donation.
